Work From The Heart and You'll Feel At Home
I don’t know why it took me so many trials in my career to finally understand that “Yes” you must have a passion for the work you do. Steve Jobs said that if you can’t find it, just keep looking. Don’t pressure yourself if you haven’t found it yet, it will come to you in time. If you pressure yourself to find it, it may never come to you. As the old saying says, the more you look for it, the more it runs away from you. What is right for you will come to you unexpected. And this is very true and I can write this blog with full confidence on what I’m writing. I followed what the others were doing and was still not fully satisfied. Always in my heart, I felt there is something else out there but I didn’t know what. Until, one day, I'm in a war zone rebuilding communities and lifting people out of poverty where I realized that as crazy as it sounds, I woke up every day looking forward to making social impact. I know it is probably insane for many to hear this. I came across many people who questioned my actions deploying to war zones and be right in the battle of action behind the military. I know my life was at risk but for me, I always thought of the people who are struggling to have a decent meal or children having the appropriate school infrastructure. Many of us have crazy ideas or it can even be insane and we keep them inside because of what others will say. Your passion might be something that you never thought you could do. I’ve come across many entrepreneurs in the startup and social enterprise community who are still surprised they became entrepreneurs. Some went from finance to become a fashion designer with no fashion design background. When your passion calls you, it will be from a place of uncertainty because you will be tested from staying in your comfort zone or go to a place where you have no idea what you are doing but “Damm It, It Just Feels Right.” Yes, it just feels right. When your heart speaks, there is no doubt or confusion, it just feels right. Trust me, is not easy because I made the mistake of many which is to listen to our ego. Spirituality has been a true blessing for me because I have come to terms with the ego. The ego which is our survival mode that protects us from jumping into unknown areas to explore ultimate possibilities. You might want to do something so badly but then the ego might make you worry about the financial consequences. For the ego is all about fear. Fear is the greatest enemy a human being has. If you conquer your fears, then nothing can stop you in this lifetime and you can become your own master. Everything that you read on motivation and self-improvement is about how to conquer your fears. These are fears that we have been wire by our family, the circle of friends, and society.
One advice that I can say is to "Never" take a job because of the money or position title. Trust me, if you do, it is committing harm to yourself and the people you are working with. Never lie to yourself and always be truth and honest. You can never go wrong when you are honest to yourself. The workplace is reinventing itself because many are working from home or even remotely. Some are even creating their own jobs and technology is allowing you to do this. It is never too late to make changes to yourself. Life is what you make of it. Whatever you have conditioned yourself you can always change it - “It is possible.”
So, whatever you wanted to do has been kept in secret, “Bring It Back Out There Again” and say to yourself, “Today” I’m moving forward and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. Keep moving forward and never look back with anger and resentment. Life is a school where all us keep learning from trials and errors - this is the juice to discover how far you can go. Remember when you find your flow in this Universe, the Universe will cooperate with you and it will take in a wild lovely and crazy (in a good sense) ride. Just be with it, smile, keep calm, and enjoy the wild breeze. When you look back, you will laugh at yourself at the crazy things that you have done but will look back with a smile and joy. Open yourself to grace and wonderful things will come to your life. Just trust and have "Faith."
I leave you with this quote from the Hanuman Chalisa:
Every moment is the last moment and the next moment is a new life.
